‘Incredible’ Cats star’s colossal effort after touchy call; freakish AFL goal record broken: 3-2-1

The Brisbane Lions may have been efficient, but the weight of Geelong numbers — including a big bag of goals from star forward 

Tom Hawkins — ultimately proved too great as the Cats recorded a hard-fought victory at GMHBA Stadium.

After the two teams went goal-for-goal for the entire first half, Brisbane took control of the match in the third term, booting three consecutive goals to take the lead.

But the Cats booted 2.6 in the final term, with Hawkins’ fifth goal of the night — a controversial one as Hawkins wasn’t pinged for a push in the back — sealing a 10-point win for Geelong.

After an early arm-wrestle, it was the Cats that drew first blood through Luke Dahlhaus, thanks to brilliant forward pressure from Jeremy Cameron.

Geelong’s speedy ball movement, which was primarily through the corridor was an early highlight.
