Hurricanes trade Tony DeAngelo to Philadelphia for three draft picks :: WRALSportsFan.com

— The Carolina Hurricanes have traded defenseman Tony DeAngelo to the Philadelphia Flyers for a trio of draft picks as the NHL Draft resumes on Friday in Montreal.

DeAngelo has been traded for for a 2022 fourth round pick, 2023 conditional third-round pick, and a 2024 second-round pick. The transaction means DeAngelo will be playing for his third team in as many seasons.

By many metrics, DeAngelo is coming off a productive season, playing in 64 games with a +30 plus/minus rating and logging his highest average on ice time of his career of 19:49 per game. He had 10 goals and 41 assists, a career-high. DeAngelo scored once and had nine assists in two playoff rounds for the Hurricanes.

The Flyers also receive a seventh-round pick in this year’s draft as part of the deal.

DeAngelo, 26, spent one year in Raleigh after coming from the New York Rangers. He signed as a free agent in July 2021 after being involved in controversies on and off the ice. The Rangers sent DeAngelo to their practice unit in February 2021 as he only played in six NHL games that season.
