UConn women’s basketball tops Stanford to advance to first national championship in six years

MINNEAPOLIS — For the first time since 2016, UConn women’s basketball is playing in the national championship game.

In front of Paige Bueckers’ hometown crowd and without their back-up big, the Huskies have extended their season to one final game.

The No. 2 seeded Huskies broke their five-year streak of falling in the Final Four by defeating No. 1 Stanford 63-58 Friday night at Target Center to advance to Sunday’s title game.

t will be UConn’s 12th all-time appearance in the championship game as its never lost a chance playing for the trophy, 11-0 all-time in the NCAA Tournament championship game.

UConn will get the chance for revenge, facing South Carolina for the title. UConn lost to the Gamecocks in the Battle 4 Atlantis Championship on Nov. 22.
