We have a MAJOR development Tuesday in the pursuit of free-agent first baseman Freddie Freeman.

MLB Network’s Jon Heyman reports the “Red Sox have joined the Freddie Freeman sweepstakes as things get more interesting.

The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports Tuesday that “Yes, the Rays are serious about signing free-agent first baseman Freddie Freeman, major-league sources say.

They’ve won the day before under similar circumstances (CC Sabathia). They remain in as do others.”

The Atlanta Braves dropped of the running for Freeman on Monday when they traded for Oakland A’s slugger Matt Olson.

The 32-year-old Freeman led the Braves to a World Series title last year. Freeman, a five-time All-Star, was the 2020 National League MVP.

If the Yankees swing and miss on Freeman, expect general manager Brian Cashman to pivot to Anthony Rizzo.
