Christian Pulisic hat trick propels USMNT past Panama and to the brink of World Cup qualification

The United States men's national team couldn't confirm its place at this winter's World Cup after Costa Rica's win at El Salvador earlier in the day, but its 5-1 win over Panama in Orlando, Florida, 

Christian Pulisic scored his first career hat trick with the national team, and additional goals from Paul Arriola and Jesus Ferreira saw 

Paul Arriola and Jesus Ferreira saw the Americans cruise to a lopsided result that eliminated Panama from contention for a place at Qatar.

With 25 points and sitting in second in CONCACAF's final qualifying table, the U.S.

Chelsea attacker Christian Pulisic fired his first international hat-trick in USA's 5-1 win over Panama on Sunday night, leading his side to the brink of World Cup qualification for the first time since 2014.

Two of the USA captain's goals came from the penalty spot before completing his treble with a stunning finish, spinning Panama 

Only a loss of six or more goals in Wednesday night's finale at Costa Rica would cause the Americans not to get one of three automatic World Cup places in qualifying.
